Dr Dooley is currently the Director of the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates [CSHIHE], a unique public-private venture involving funding from the Office of Public Works and a number of private benefactors. The aims of the CSHIHE are to secure and enhance public appreciation of historic properties in the coming years by education, research and scholarly publication.  One of its key functions is the organisation of the Annual Historic Houses of Ireland Conference (2003 - ) to provide focus and recognition for new scholarship and other developments in the field of built heritage studies. The CSHIHE has established close collaborative links on an international level with the Yorkshire Country House Partnership in England; the University of Catania in Sicily; the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature. It also collaborates at national level with the Historic Houses Association of Ireland; the Irish Georgian Society; and the Irish Heritage Trust. It has received funding from both the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Heritage Council to host seminars and conferences relating to the built heritage of Ireland.
