Small Navies Conference Poster

Small Navies Conference. 19-21 October 2012

This conference will examine the role and activities of small navies in the past and the present. The conference consists of keynote plenary sessions plus a number of parallel panel sessions that will examine historical operations and experiences and/or current  theory and practice.  Without being prescriptive about what is meant by the term 'small navy', the conference will explore the ways in which such navies have operated in the past and the challenges that they face today and in the future. Papers focus on wide range of topics and regions, reflecting the aim of the conference to examine the different ways in which small(er) navies identify and seek to meet national , regional and international security challenges and the manner in which they interact with other navies and security agencies in addition to exploring issues relating to broader maritime security including governance, surveillance, environmental protection, economic well-being and maritime innovation.

The conference is hosted by the Centre for Military History and Strategic Studies and will take place on campus at NUI Maynooth, with all sessions held in either the Iontas Lecture Theatre or in  the John Hume Building.
